As noted, all Kaldan telephone numbers are 12 digits long from a domestic point. Kaldus Communications will recommend that the person enters the entire telephone number including the + for people. This will allow the caller to call home if out of the country for whatever the reason. Ordinary people will have a telephone number that would begin with nnx and will be their NIN+a single digit. This will make it much easier for someone to reach you if they know your NIN, and know which of the last digit is the one they are using. Most people only need 1 personal line, but someone with a home phone, and a cellular phone will have 2 telephone numbers. Again, the first 11 digits will always be their NIN, and that last digit will be dependent on the subscriber. This allows the person to have 10 telephone numbers which is more than what most people will need.
Let’s assume that Frank’s NIN is 52022554377. As you can see, this is 11 digits which is one digit short of a complete telephone number. He might want multiple telephone numbers, and as long as he is willing to pay for the service, this will not be an issue. The only problem is if the person wanted more than 10 numbers. The only way I could see this applying is if they were to have a business which will require a 9 digit Business ID Number. Those number distribution is 1000 unique telephone numbers which is more than what most businesses will enver come close to needing. Now let’s say Frank wants a pager for whatever the reason. He also wants a fax, home, and cellular line. All together, this will be 4 telephone numbers. Now the subscriber will be able to choose the last digit as long as it isn’t being used currently. The customer will obviously know since they are in charge of the 10 digits they have access to. The numbers might look like:
- 520225543771: Pager
- 520225543772: Fax
- 520225543775: Home
- 520225543779: Cellular
If he doesn’t want the person to ring a phone, but must provide a phone number, then he could give 520225543771 and inform the person that this is his voicemail number. Just because it is a pager does not mean it has to be known it is a pager. The announcement can be to just leave a message. When a message is left, the pager will sound off. Because of unified voicemail, all voicemails left will sound off the pager.
Frank can also have a fax line in case he should need that. That number as noted above is 520225543772. Anyone calling this number will likely ring an ATA? which will host the fax machine. If the fax is in NSC standards, then the ATA is not needed since the fax machine will support FOIP?.
Frank will also have a home phone being 520225543775 which will use a wifi? phone. He can carry the phone with him anywhere in his home, and know he can answer any incoming calls with that number. There is no need for a digital answering machine as the number provider must offer voicemail services. Since unified voicemail is standard, then all voicemails will show up as a voicemail waiting symbol on the screen. Some phones may have a flashing light for when there is voicemail. That light will also flash even if the person called the above pager number.
For those that a really important, the cellular number of 520225543779 will provide with all of the phone the person needs, but as noted above, there is also a home phone. Since most smartphones these days supports visual voicemail, they can choose to listen to the messages they want to listen to first (depending on importance). Once all of the voicemails have been cleared, any other message notifications as noted with the home phone above will turn off since there is no longer a voicemail in the box. Frank can choose to make calls to anyone with the cellular phone, and the number ending in 9 will be the number that shows when calling from the cellular phone.
Even with all of the numbers mentioned here, Frank could also get up to 6 more telephone numbers if he should wish. As mentioned, if he really needed more than 10 numbers, then he likely has a business which will have their own numbering format.
Child Accounts
A child might need a telephone number before they acquire their GIN. If this is the case, then the guardian will need to make up a child account with the telephone carrier. The guardian will log into their gov.ka web portal, and select Services > Accounts > New. They will enter the Business ID number, their NIN, select for a child, and then the child’s NIN. If applying for a new account over the web, the guardian will need both their and the child’s .png file of their ID cards.
Once that happens, the account can be created with the child’s NIN card (in person), or .png file (online). Once the account is accepted, the child will choose the last digit of their telephone number, and a line will be issued. If using a regular SIM?, then the card can be inserted into the phone while in person, or have it mailed to the child’s address. If eSIM?, then the account can be activated immediately. Calls from this line will show the child’s name, and it would be regarded as the child’s telephone number especially since it is based off of their NIN. The guardian is responsible for the cost of service. If the guardian chooses to no longer pay for the number, then the line will be set as voicemail only, and Ka-Tel will take over.
When the child acquires their GIN, and activate their bank account, they will be able to choose their own phone provider, and for the point of billing – will be able to be responsible for their own account. The child should have learned in school about personal finance, and the consequences of having bills. And since the bank was required to collect deposits for the child before they could access the account – the bank account from the National Bank will have funds in the account waiting for the child.
Even though the child can take on their own phone account, they are still considered as a minor. The adult will receive a portion of GBI for the care of the minor, but being the account has been activated, the minor will have some say in how their funds are used.
